Traquatic

Overview

Traquatic is our own product — an iOS app for aquatic habitat management taken from idea to App Store. As a solo venture from Little Curio, every decision was ours to make. It’s the purest expression of what we believe good product design looks and feels like - starting with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.

Challenge

Aquatic habitat keeping is a hobby with a surprising amount of complexity — setup, water parameters, compatibility matching, maintenance schedules, equipment tracking. Existing tools were either spreadsheet-like utilities with no soul, or fragmented across forums and scribbled notes. There was nothing that felt both intuitive and genuinely designed for the people who care deeply about their habitats.

Approach

• Spoke with hobbyists across experience levels to understand how they think about and manage their habitats
• Mapped out the mental models people already use — tank journals, test logs, maintenance schedule approaches — and designed around them rather than imposing new ones
• Focused the initial release on the features that mattered most: habitat tracking, water parameter logging, and maintenance tasks
• Designed a warm, organic visual language that feels at home in the hobby — not clinical, not gamified
• Prioritised privacy: all data stays on-device, no accounts required, no trackers

Outcome

Traquatic launched on the App Store and continues to grow through word of mouth within the aquatic hobby community. It’s the project we’re supremely proud of — proof that thoughtful design doesn’t need a big team, just a pragmatic, user-centred approach, and a clear resulting vision.
